TRANSPORT TRANSITION:

AVOID, SHIFT AND IMPROVE

Victoria University of Wellington Te Herenga Waka

8 DECEMBER 2022

Conference Welcome

The Transport Knowledge Hub will host the eighth Transport Knowledge Conference that will be held on Thursday 8 December 2022 at Victoria University of Wellington.

The Conference will be an-in-person event but attendees will also have the option to join online.

Conference Overview:

The transport sector plays a pivotal role in Aotearoa New Zealand’s first Emissions Reduction Plan as transport will need to almost fully decarbonised by 2050 in order to achieve the national target of reach net zero by 2050. Decarbonising the transport system requires implementing a mix of transformational changes and actions to deliver better transport for New Zealanders, making it more sustainable, inclusive, safe and accessible.

The theme for Transport Knowledge Conference 2022 is Transport Transition: Avoid, Shift and Improve. We invite transport researchers and practitioners to submit abstracts, using the following sub-themes, to explore what the transition looks like and what it really means to our transport system and professions:

  • Distributive impact and accessibility

  • Economic prosperity

  • Environmental sustainability

  • Freight and supply chain

  • Healthy and safe people

  • Monitoring and evaluation of the transport system

  • Technology and innovation

The purpose of the conference is to bring together the transport research, data and evaluation community with government officials, decision makers and policy teams from the across the wider transport sector.

Conference objectives:

  • Enhance the use of evidence (data, information, research and evaluation) to inform decision-making

  • Provide a forum for people working across the transport sector to share, build, and maintain their transport knowledge

  • Create a thriving transport research, data and evaluation community that delivers an evidence-based transport system that improves wellbeing and liveability.

The Transport Knowledge Hub aims to connect transport-sector professionals and promote the sharing of transport data, evidence, knowledge, research, information, capabilities, and ideas.

We look forward to seeing you there!
